The Trial of Dr. Chua
Chua, 45, has been held in the Camden County jail since September 2006 when he was arrested and charged with the drug overdose death of Jamie Carter III. Prosecutors say Carter, 20, died from drugs Chua prescribed for no legitimate medical purpose.

Chua sentenced to life in prison on murder conviction

Judge Amanda Williams sentenced Noel Chua to life in prison after a jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict on felony murder charges in the overdose death of Jamie Carter.
Williams also sentenced Chua to five years in prison after he was found guilty of seven of 16 drug charges for violating the Georgia Controlled Substance Act.
After the sentence was read, Chua was led from the courtroom. He will be held at the Glynn County Jail until Friday when Williams will consider a request from defense attorney Donald Samuel to have Chua held at the Camden County Jail.
District Attorney Stephen Kelley asked Williams to hold Chua in Glynn County because the convicted murderer had been given preferential treatment such as being seen unsupervised outside the Camden County Jail before his trial.

What is the rush with this JUDGE? Isn't this out of the norm to sentence as soon as the verdict is announced?

Judge Amanda Williams is a piece of work along with Mr. Kelly!

I hope an appeal is in the works.

What goes around--comes around. They will suffer for what a railroading job each one has arranged!

too bad we aren't living in the "old" days when it was an eye for an eye. good job Judge! I think you are moving at a great pace myself! Just my opinion!

You people are crazy! A jury decided Noel Chua's fate, not a Judge and certainly not the DA. The evidence was presented and a jury that had been selected by both the defense and the prosecution came to a unanimous decision to convict Noel Chua. I for one believe that Justice has finally prevailed! As for the sentence, isn't life the mandatory sentence for the charge of felony murder? Why would she wait to have the sentencing? Always a conspiracy theory, huh?

Sentencing on a felony murder conviction is always provided right after a verdict. As a law enforcement officer with the Sheriff's Department, I can state that it is not unusual by a Judge. Dr Chua should have taken the plea agreement, with all the evidence that was against him. He needed to take his "medicine", but he elected to roll the dice and look what it got him. So sad...

Congratulations to the D.A.'s office for a job well done.

Many thanks to Judge Williams who did an awesome job!

To all the jurors - you cannot be happy about having to decide this case, but you came back with the right decision. You all have my deepest respect and gratitude.

Thanks to those young men who had the courage to come forward and tell about the relationship they had with Chua, and the drugs he gave them.

Where Chua is going now, he won't be able to screw up another young man's life!

I'm sure everyone in Osprey Cove who has a young son is glad he no longer lives there.

what does being gay have to with murder

Anonymous said...

Jamie's epitat now reads thanks to what the prossecution needed to get a conviction: "Gay out of control drug addict."

That's what the DA needed and that's what the parents and family and so called friends will always now have to remember him by.

Dr. Chua had problems but none that warrant felony murder.

DA Kelley needed a conviction or else his head would roll. His story to the jury as he performed in his closing argument was sick, viscous, twisted, vile, non factual to the case, not based on evidence or common sense. And the jury bought his desperate and wreckless show. Any family that this lie was told to would be devastated as the Carter family has been and their reactions this past year are completely justifiable.

But,now there is no excuse for the Carter family attitude and actions this past year. They were always greedy and always wanted more.

I have never seen two more dispicable people that DA Kelley and ADA Jackie Johnson. I thought for sure that the jury would see right through them as the rest of us did.

Throughout this trial I found a great appreciation for Jamie Carter. I finally understood the excruciating pain he was in, mental and physical, that he coped with most all his life. He was not the “gay” out of control drug addict that the prosecution needed/used him to be to win their case.

But I was wrong, his family and DA and all his friends knew alot more than I did. Jamie will always be known by what his family, DA, ADA, State of Georgia and jury have written forever on his tombstone. "Gay out of Control Drug Addict!"

Anonymous said...

Jamie was addicted to pain killers, but he was 19 years old and did not have a medical degree. He went to Chua because Chua had the education and training, and had the power to help.

If jamie's epitath says anything about drug use, it will state that he was overdosed by a doctor and left to die.

Anonymous said...

What does being gay have to do with felony murder? you ask? Everything if you are the doctor and having sex with your patient and providing controlled substances to your "patient"/lover and that lover dies in your house from you unlawfully providing controlled substances to your lover so you can have sex with him. The jury has spoken!!

Anonymous said...

Is there anyone who was in the courtroom when the verdict was read? I have questions.

Anonymous said...

So what you are saying is that Jamie was without question "gay"?

Then who is that imposter that called herself jamie's girlfriend?

They paid her to be in court just in case?

It always takes two to Tango.

Wasn't his girlfriend awfully upset that Jamie slept with other boys and men besides her? or maybe not her at all.

Anonymous said...

Jamie slept with Dr. CHua for Drugs. That is what addiction will do to you. You will do anything for the Drug and Dr. Chua had the pad and "death" pen to write the prescription. He was a Dr. and should have known better, but the 45 year old thought with the wrong head and that resulted in Jamie's death. If he would not have provided the drugs the good Doctor would not have been convicted.

Anonymous said...

Never, Never, Never let anyone to stay in your house!!

As DA Kelley said: Katie Bar The Door!

In his closing argument Kelley said: "It just was Jamie and Dr. Chua partying it up!"

I can't believe the parents actually let him get away with that, this was in Jamie's last days when he had alot of pain and misery. Smells like all money to me!

Anonymous said...

The evidence has spoken and so has the jury. Even his friend, the sheriff, and the preferential treatment didn't help him. Chua was proven to be a predatory, careless individual who will now get his just rewards!

Anonymous said...

I am Dr. Chua girlfriend and I want everyone to know that he is a good man, and would never hurt anyone. There was a question in court this week about him being gay. I am here to let everyone know that is not the case. I feel for the Carters I am sure they are hurt I do not know what it must be like to lose a son. But that is no reason for them to take there anger out on Dr. Chua. He was good to there son, they need to remember that.

Anonymous said...

To who ever wrote that the jury has spoken and that even Dr. Chua’s Friend the sheriff could not help. You need to get a life. The Sheriff was a friend to Dr. Chua but what does that have to do with this case??? The Sheriff is a man of integrity and that is not something that you apparently have. This case has nothing to do with our Sheriff. Please leave him out of this.

Anonymous said...

If you think the Sheriff is a man of integrity then you need to get some help and get off the drugs that are obviously clouding your mind.

Did you miss last Sunday's Times Union?

That's why Chua was found guilty. People in this town think gay people are perverted. IF Chua is gay it doesn't matter. By the way it is legal in Georgia to have sex at 16 thank you.

Anonymous said...

Hey! The person who keeps saying this person and that person is on drugs, has an anger problem and is probably doing drugs themselves. Or just thinks everone except them do drugs.

Experts agree that the drug that caused Jamie's death was methadone but the prosecution does not know and has never proven where the methadone came from as it definately was not from a Dr. chua prescription.

So the jury convicted him on totally circumstantial evidence, there was not a "smoking gun" that could be traced back to a Dr. Chua prescription. This was proven in court. The DA's evidence (which was clearly lacking in this case) of a alot of pills that Jamie had horded for years had nothing to do with Dr. Chua. It was proven that in no way did Dr. Chua perscribe the methadone that killed Jamie.

Anonymous said...

It is ironic that emminent medical authorities called Dr. Chua's treatment of Jamie Carter conservative and stated that they would have been even more agressive in treating Jamie's migraines. The DA should win an Oscar for his dramatic performance which he called a summation. The ADA is an out of control woman who thinks she is a female Perry Mason. Her cross-examinations, her yelling, her court room antics, etc. were ridiculous and uncalled for. Her sloppy dressing and appearance were highly unprofessional. The biased judge, who never should have been allowed to be the presiding judge to begin with, needs to be reminded that she is elected and her salary is paid by the very same people she threatened with arrest if they showed any signs of emotion while the verdict was read. She also needs to be reminded that the courtroom she calls her own belongs to the people who paid for its construction and are still paying for its upkeep. Jamie's parents, who already collected a handsome insurance settlement, have the satisfaction that their son graduated from an "all American" young man, which he was made out to be initially, to a drug addicted homosexual. His own sister insinuated that much in her testimony. A compassionate, caring doctor has a brilliant medical career ruined simply because, according to his native custom, he cared for and took in a young man, who had no where else to go. What a sad day for American jurisprudence!

You cannot prey on a 19-20yo man sexually. The family, friends of Jamie Carter have been spewing hatred and false claims from the beginning.
It's very hard to have sympathy for any of them as by the way they have behaved for the past year. They fester off each other with their own lies and propaganda.

Now they still don't want to be civil. The family or friends have never shown one ounce of compassion. They will always be victims of themselves.

I saw Jamie's dad on the FOX news after the game. He appeared so happy he forgot himself how that would appear.

MONEY _ MONEY_ MONEY

Why else would they sacrifice the character of their son. They used Jamie in what ever they needed him to be at the time.
Last Fall he was a clean cut all american rah-rah type. Less than a year later they made him a gay out of control drug addict.

Jamie's character has Never been in question, the character of his parents and family has always been in question.

I guess people will be watching their character for a very, very long time to come. It stinks of MONEY!!

Mr Tony, you don't need to comment that way, just stick to the issues and you don't need to tell the world that you are a Filipino.

Anonymous said...

Mr.Tony, you really don't know what happen between the patient and the doctor during the treatment process. You don't know the agony beyond that. It is easy to be vindictive. I am not condoning the bad thing that happen. Do you think that doctor wants to kill him and overdose him- is that the purpose of that drug, by the way do you know the role of methadone on patient who are on chronic pain medications? Nobody knows, do you know? except for the doctor who is treating him. Do you think Mr Jamie will be smiling on his tomb that the doctor that he entrust his care is going to be in the jail for the rest of his career?Yes all of you are right " he got the authority and the knowledge". There is always in the prescription and it written this way- "this drug may cause dependence and addiction", was patient vigilant enough to ask the doctor about the side effect of the medications and then ask for alternative treatment, and most likely it was offered, because again who will risk their 12 years of studying just to drown the hopeless guy from dying due to overdose, as a 20y/o he should know how to understand that.Just one example, in general case, patient will visit their respective doctor and they will blame their doctor because they are not getting better, but as a patient do they follow what really the doctor told them to do, or they rather read webmd.com? Life existence on earht is not about "litigation" alone,, there is more to life and death. How about offering prayer to the death person and the person who is going to jail. do you think that is a good idea than saying that you are a filipino MR TONY?

i have a question. is this case cannot go to higher court? Or the highest court? I think this is a half cooked judgement

Anonymous said...

This is truly a tragic tale for all parties. I do understand why Mr. Carter was never referred to a neurologist for his headaches, instead of being given narcotic medications. I have suffered migraine headaches for more than 30 years and have never taken narcotics to control them. Maybe, I just have better sense. There should have further tests and preventative medications provided to Jamie to try to relieve some of the pain. Hindsight is 20-20, but a doctor should always try to find out the underlying cause and treat that cause or refer to a specialist. I am totally baffled, as a patient, how Jamie was not given the best of care.

Anonymous said...

It's clear to me that Chua wanted to keep Jamie close to himself. Every good doctor knows when to refer his patient to a specialist. A general practioner doesn't have the same expertise. Hopefully, this will be a lesson to all residents of St Mary's.

If you have a heart condition, you see a cardiologist. If you have bone cancer, you see a cancer specialist. Chua was not a specialist in pain management or neurology. He didn't even recognize the symptoms of an overdose!

Anonymous said...

I agree with the above comments. It's clear Chua did not treat his patient right. Why treat migraines with strong narcotics? That absolutely makes no sense, and contrary to the opinions of so-called experts, this suggests that Chua indeed went beyond his area of expertise.

There are standard protocols for the treatment of migraines, none of which requires the use of narcotics. There are so many drugs now availabe to treat this problem. I think those who felt that Chua was just doing his best to treat his chronic pain, due to migraines, are vastly ignorant of what they are talking about.

More than this, it's highly unethical for a doctor to treat somebody living with him. As the testimonies clearly show us, Chua appeared to be a sexual predator who took advantage of young men, letting them live with him and sleeping in his bedroon. Chua's sister confirmed that bizarre behavior, which has nothing to do with Chua being gay.

For all those who cried "Southern Injustice," they need to hang their heads in shame. This verdict was reached UNANIMOUSLY by a jury, and it ought to be respected.

We all feel bad for Chua, but he brought this upon himself. His case ought to be a lesson for all of us: Never prejudge a case before all the facts are known, and it's not necessary for those who have supported Chua to say that this was a "cooked" decision." Any appeal here by Chua's lawyer is doomed to failure.

Anonymous said...

Medicine has become specialized for a reason. Chua made many mistakes, as the evidence has shown. He was blinded by his personal relationship and no longer held the objectiveness needed to treat this young man. The jury did their job. This young man would probably be alive today, if he had been referred to the proper specialists.

Anonymous said...

D.A. Kelly, A.D.A Johnson and defense attorney Samuels all did a great job. Problem was Samuels didn't have much to work with and Chua was so far over the line there was no bringing him back. The master of this diaster was Chua, not the press nor the State. He played with the little boys and the big boys took over. The State of Georgia was right to take his medical license, the grand jury was right in indicting him, the State was right in prosecuting him and the jury was right to convict him.

Anonymous said...

Pills and thrills. That was what it was all about. Chua had what it took to feed the adiction and he did it. Now it is time to pay the piper. The next group of boys won't need pills. Chua got it the end. Probably exaclty where he wanted it.

Anonymous said...

To all you Chua supporters that seem to want to blame the victim, which is so typical in these types of cases. You wanted a fair trial, he was given a fair trial. You all keep referring to the jury pool as a bunch of local yocals. Well I hate to tell you but there were members on that jury that weren't originally from Camden County they moved here. And to the person that made reference to an Oak Tree, personally it is a dang shame that we can't use that kind of punishment these days. The man had a defense team that was given every opportunity to present evidence supporting Chua's claims that he was innocent. They failed. Get over and get a life. You can now start raising money for the Bill Smith Defense Team and start holding your
"WE SHALL OVERCOME" vigils. Hopefully he and Chua will end up cell mates. And to Chua's "SO CALLED" girlfriend, you may think that your relationship with the "Good Doctor" was exclusive but you need to wake up and smell the roses sugar cause he was playing you while playing with little boys.

Years of hanging on to old medications ? How do any of us know that perhaps, just perhaps that it was old medication bottles that newer pills he was receiving was placed in. People with addictions have ways of hiding things. I do feel sorry for Jamie, he did not receive the proper care that he needed. The last few weeks of his life was a train wreck in the making. I cannot understand how it was that he was left by himself in the state that he was in once leaving the hospital. I know several people who used Dr. Chua as their doctor. All have said that the care he provided to them was outstanding. But I also know people that seemed to heavily rely on pills that seemed to prefer his treatments as well. This whole matter is as with all things 2-sided. To those that entrusted their care to him and he provided professional services to, i do feel you lost a great doctor. To those that depended on him for assistance that some would consider questionable, I am sure that other doctors will be able to help you. It is a shame that the "red-flags" with pharmacists are not thrown sooner. It is a shame with technology that issues like this are not identified. Prescritions written for one patient by numerous doctors are dangerous. A doctor has no way of knowing if their patient is seeing others doctors unless they tell them. People are saying this is a "gay" phobia that led to the outcome of the trial. No, what makes this different is that his housemate was his patient and if anyone could of seen the true condition of a person it should of been a doctor. Two lives ended on that night. If anything, if you know of a person addicted to medication, step in and insist they get proper treatment. It is to late once they are dead. As for other doctors that prescribe meds outside of your profession, think about this trial, it could of been you, and for the doctors that say "no" this is not my area, thank you. As i stated earlier 2 lives ended that night.

Anonymous said...

No matter what the outcome, no matter what happens next, this is heart breaking for all. Dr Chua was kind. Jamie had issues. I think Jamie was an addict. His actions caused his death. If he didn't get them from Chua he would have gotten the somewhere. That's what addicts do.
But, I don't feel that you should treat someone that your involved with. It can cloud your judgement. Can you emagine a surgeon providing care to a family member-actually doing surgery on them. No.
Sad, sad, sad for all.

Mindar said...

It's interesting that there are those here who try and say that Dr Chua is not gay. It was Dr Chua himself that announced to his colleagues in Camden County that he was gay. This case was not about his sexual preference though. It was about a Jekyll and Hyde type of person who on one hand appeared to be a kind caring physician, and on the other a twisted 45 year old that used his medical license to entice sexual favors from young men. I don't care what he did for 80 year old women, or anyone else that he saw as a doctor. What he did to his victims was abhorrednt, and ended up with the death of a young man who should have been treated as a drug addict and not a sex toy. Noel Chua (not Dr Chua anymore!!!) got just what he deserved. He was offered a plea and refused to take it because of his arrogance and the fact that his views on the whole sordid mess are so twisted that he didn't think he did anything wrong. Kudus to the DA, The St Marys Police, and the jury. To hell with Noel Chua.

I think we should look @ this situation & realize that anytime a doctor wants a patient to come & live w/ them, there is something wrong. I work with doctors and have never heard of a patient living w/ their medical provider. I would never allow this to take place w/ my children no matter their age. IT's all about the choices we make & that certainly should've never been one of them.

I agree that it should never have been turned into a racial issue nor should it be turned into a sexual preference issue, unless Noel Chua is going to be prosecuted for sexual relations with an minor. The primary issue addressed was he is a physician, a person in position to determine the medical care of another, and he failed to provide the appropriate care and the individual died due to the gross negligence of Noel Chua. Those who have spit racial slurs should now be issuing apologies, they spoke without the evidence before them. I hope their conscious' allow them to sleep at night.

Filipinos are good in their chosen profession and Dr Chua was an example. He was well respected and loved by people whom he treated even to the point of unquestionably supporting him. But like every individual of any race or creed, we all have weaknesses. A lot of good men and women are in jail right now because of that one moment when they let their weakness took over them. It's more than aparent that those who said this conviction was based on evidence were not at the trial all week. What the DA said in his opening and closing statements were the key to the jury's decision.
I will say once again none of you so called Jamie supporters have not caught on to this in over a year. The character of Jamie (not his drug or sexual preference problems) has NEVER been in question.
The character of his parents and family is the "character" that has always been and will be forever, in question. They used and abused him.
So please, start respecting Jamie. He died nearly two years ago and you still demean him after all this time. Please start putting blame where it belongs and not on a dead man. It was not his fault he was in terrible pain.
It is his family that "chose" to use his death to their own advantage as coached by DA Stephen Kelley. I can't put it any nicer.

Yes, he smiled. But the question he responded to was, "Do you think Jamie is looking down on us right now?" And, his dad responded with a smile, "Oh, yes." The smile was totally appropriate!

to the "first do no harm" quoter: both parents have found different spouses and the young man (not a boy) found a home somewhere else. wow, what good parents they have been to jamie!

Anonymous said...

The parents were not on trial for a felony murder. If you have some knowledge that they gave Jamie drugs, you should have given testimony in court.

Anonymous said...

did someone say they gave jamie drugs? the fact that the parents were too busy with their own lives and in the process neglected to look after the welfare of their young son (who found a home elsewhere) because they cared more about their own happiness, they need to learn to take responsibility for what happened to him as well. consciously or unconsciously, they let things happen to him

Anonymous said...

Did you know Jamie and his family personally?

Anonymous said...

At 19 years of age, Jamie is at the age of majority. Legally, a man. He is no longer under the control of his parents. He is more likely to be under the influence of friends at this age. Any parent will know this to be fact. I have raised children through adulthood and found this to be true. You can't blame the parents. The blame lies where the evidence has spoken through a jury. The appeals process will affirm the verdict.

Anonymous said...

to the poster who said it was not right for Jamie's dad to be smiling, you need to revisit the video again. He smiled because the person asked him if he thought Jamie was looking down and to which James replied that yes jamie was looking down and had a big smile on his face. To know Jamie was to love him and that incredible smile he always had not to mention those hugs. Leave his family alone! They have been through enough hell for almost two years now. Think before you speak or at least know the facts and you won't appear so ignorant next time in your comment!

Anonymous said...

I have never met Jamie or any member of his family. I find it so hard to believe that some people continue to strike out at the victim and his family! It is unfortunate and disgusting that these people continue to victimize this family. The anger they spew is horrid, why can't they just admit their beloved Noel Chua made mistakes and now must pay for them. He was not diligent enough with this young man's life and Jamie paid the ultimate price. A price that has undoubtedly left an emptiness that will always be felt in the lives of those who knew him. His family members will always miss him and remember him with love. Atleast Noel Chua's supporters will be able to visit him on visiting day. Why do they have to keep rubbing salt in the wounds of Jamie's family?

Anonymous said...

WELL SAID! I COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT BETTER! I do know this family and I have seen first hand the heartache and misery that Jamie's passing has done to them. The last thing on their minds has been to hurt Jamie or to disgrace him. To know Jamie was to love Jamie and he truly was loved by so many including his family.

Anonymous said...

The criticizers of Jamie's family are uneducated, unrealistic, illogical, disllusioned and fail to accept reponsibility in their own lives. I see a trend here to blame everything on everybody else.

Thank God the jury was made up of smart people who understood human behavior.

This kid online is bent on smearing Jamie's name and that of his family. Keep it up and you may be the next to find yourself in court.

Anonymous said...

In DA Kelley's off-the-wall closing statement last Friday he failed to rule out the possibility that jamie may have ahd enough and killed himself. He also didn't take into account that Jamie mistakenly took drugs that he didn't know would kill him.
DA Kelley opened more doors than he closed.
As atty. Don Samuels said it best: "Nobody knows what happened" the last afternoon of Jamie's life. Not Samuels, not Dr. Chua and most certainly not DA Kelley! His closing statement was based on pure conjecture and circumstance and that's how the jury reached their verdict. You can believe DA Kelley's concocted horror story that is not even remotely coherrant to it's self, or, continue to look for the truth.
This case by far is not over!

Dr. Chua was my Doctor and a very good one at that. I went to him for weight loss, and I will tell you in all of my 40 years of going to Doctors he was the only one that took time with me and was very strict on meds. I have also gone to Doctors in the past and said that I had back problems, and they never spent 2 minutes with me and prescribed me pain meds. Just because a doctor prescribes meds, we are the ones that actually swallow them. On the other side of this, if so many people knew this boy has drug problems why didn't they try and help him? It's easier to live with themselves every day now blaming the good dr. Dr Chua shouldn't have been the only one blamed. If it was that bad why didn't the parents do more. You do what you have to for your kids no matter what the age. They also did nothing and instead of putting any blame on themselves to get up in the morning lets once again blame the good Dr.! I also belive Dr Chua's sexual habits had a lot to do with it. No matter what people are prejudice. I bet if you get every Dr in America that practices medicine, he would have a few screw ups, if not they would not be human. If Dr. Chua made a mistake it was because the kindness of his heart. What about when the elderly couldn't afford meds, and he would pay and take them over there himself. I'm sure the DA didn't share any of that. I do belive one day justice will be served and then maybe everyone can then be in peace!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Blaming everything on everyone else is exactly what Jamie's parents have done. All they have done is found a scapegoat to blame all Jamie's problems and theirs on.

Sleep Well!!

Anonymous said...

The rest of us don't know what you're talking about. The DA laid out his fact. He didn't speculate. Chua was the last to see Jamie alive. Jamie was drugged then. Chua left him to do. What is it that is so hard for you to understand?

You're got to quit blaming others and look at it the way it is. You cannot pretend it is something else, because it happened!

Chua may not have pointed a gun and pulled a trigger, but he gave him the gun fully loaded and walked away. I think he WANTED Jamie to pull the trigger, so he could get him out of his house, so he could find a playmate more willing to play!

Anonymous said...

Young man, I'm worried about you. Take an old woman's advice and seek counselling. Your thinking is not rational and is appropriate under the circumstances. Are YOU under the inflluence of drugs?

Anonymous said...

We have a great justice system! 12 citizens reveiwed all of the evidence and were convenced beyoud a reasonable doubt of the truth. Judge Williams instructed the jury to decide the case based on the evidence and to reach their own decision. She further instructed the Jury NOT to change their verdict soley to please other jurors. This is not California where you may get an OJ jury.

Ok so this has nothing to do with the trial or the outcome......but I was ordered to testify in court. Supena (not sure how to spell it) but anyways I have been harassed by his supporters ever since. I only did what I had to do. I had no choice. So all of the dr. chua supporters out there, how can you claim to be holier than thou when I have been treated like this?

Anonymous said...

I was a patient of Chua's for a brief period of time about 4 years ago. I attempted to explain to him about my many various food allergies and ask him to help me with a diet plan to lose weight. Everyone"s beloved Dr. Chua told me "Do like they do on Survivor, don't eat." Now, does that really sound like a caring doctor? I only had 35 pounds that I really needed to lose to be in a healthy range. I can tell you this much, I never walked back into his office. To all of Noel Chua's supporters, he lost my respect that day as a doctor and proved that he really was callous and didn't care. Maybe it was because I wasn't looking for medications, I was looking for a healthy lifestyle that would work with all my allergies. Maybe it was all my allergies that scared him, who knows. I was furious, I couldn't believe a doctor would tell a patient to just don't eat.

DR. Chau deserved what he got. He kept on supplying my boyfriend with multipal RX's. After a miss hap I had to tell Dr. Chau to STOP writting RX's. That was right before Jamied died. He abused his power as a doctor. I bet he will get plenty of gay ass in prison.

I'm a Filipino MD in the U.S. Read most of this on the paper and this blog. After great consideration, I agree to a possible manslaughter, negligence, and removal of his license. Murder? I'm not so sure that this was premeditated. I will have doubts on this. I think he cared very much, but was just not enough for him to say no to him. really wished it wasn't so. I really wished that I would be swayed the other way. I am very patriotic to my country and fellow filipinos. However, there are just too many questions that Doctor Chua failed on protecting himself. Above all, I would not have allowed a 19 y/o to live with me, work for me, and be my patient all at the same time (especially prescribing narcotic medications...it really sets me up for scrutiny). I am sorry my fellow Filipinos who I'm sure will take this comment very negatively. But we have to be reasonable rather than emotional. I am sure Dr. Chua is an excellent doctor otherwise, and patients would lose his services dearly....I just wished he had more self control and less emotionally charged for people he love too much...because at that point, he is a danger to himself and his patients. Sorry again !

He has been waiting for this trial for such a long time...I am not sure why he did not take the stand, especially since his life was at stake. He would talk to a reporter but not to the Jury??? They should appeal the ruling, but I think if he ever has a chance to stand, he should!

Anonymous said...

to the 230 am poster, there was no intent to kill, we all know that. but what if it happens to you? you get blamed because a patient under your care dies not only because of the pain meds you prescribed but because he ingested more than what was prescribed (addicts will do anything they can to have access to what they want --work and live with a doc, for one), and unprescribed by you? you would have cried foul too.

Anonymous said...

i totally agree with the 821am comment. hindsight is 20/20. the fact is physicians are the worst in documentation. i bet at worst. dr. chua documented better than 70% of the 20 doctors carter had. and i bet dr. chua was convicted based on his lack of documentaion. then the GBI needs to make a clean sweep of doctors that don't document narcotic use for their patients. then they will have millions in the jail cell with dr. chua for life. think about it. dr. filipino and to all the other doctors. the minute you order medications for pain and you have just one patient not follow your orders like you have instructed. you can be sentenced to life imprison, as a result of this verdict. you will have so many people who are already in pain in much worst pain, doctors will choose to ignore rather than find a correct pain med for their patients because that will be the forefront in their minds. i know what i am talking about because i am in the medical profession as well. dr. chua is and will always be an honorable man. he has done the best for each of his patients . he acted out of compassion for carter. the testimony of hime with minors are lies. he is not gay, his personal moral values would not allow it. may the real truth prevail.

The the individual who posted 10/22 at 11:49 p.m. I posted 10/22 at 10:41 p.m. My post did not smack with fiction. I can provide more than ample documentation of this incident, including the few pages of medical records from Chua's office. I have been to allergists, I have been to the ER on more than one occasion due to a new food allergic reaction. I became very verbal and told Chua exactly what I thought of him as a physician when he told me not to eat. I am sure he still remembers me. People really should know the facts before they pass judgement.

Even though, I personally do like Chua, I have not to this day passed a personal judgement on him about this case. A jury has spoken. Our judicial system is our system of law and punishment, and we have to allow it to work. The jury found him guilty, he is allowed access to the appeals process. The appeals process is based on procedural laws and basis. Time will tell.

Jamie lived with his dad the majority of his life. Not that it matter's, but they resided in a brick home. James is a hard working chirstian man that has been devastated by the loss of his first born child. These parents thought Jamie was working part-time for Noel Chua. They did not know he was treating their son. Never was an office visit filed with James insurance. Chua isolated Jamie from his family. Had they known that Jamie was being treated for medical or as the jury determined "non-medical" purpose they would have intervened. The first "explanation of benefits" from their insurance on the hospitalizations came after Jamie's death. To this day, Noel Chua has never made any attempt to contact any of the family. Chua never displayed any compassion to this family. I'm sure Dr. Chua was a good doctor to many people but for Jamie he was deadly.

Anonymous said...

to the 8:21 response: I agree that i would have cried foul as well if I was convicted of murder in a patient who overdosed because of my prescription. hence i do agree with the appeal. However, this case would not have gone to trial if he had kept good documentation, did not live or worked with the patient he was treating, and probably if other relatives would have been living with him at the time. Taking everything into account, there is reason to suspect foul play. Hence, I do not think I would be in any court battle soon enough without these factors taken into account. I do think taht the Supreme court may reverse the decision of murder, but he will be penalized severely as well, loss of medical license, narcotic drug prescription, some jail time...I feel bad about it as well, but again, I feel he is not telling us the whole story. He is hinding something especially by not taking the stand. Just my opinion.

Anonymous said...

additionally from above, how many doctors do you know have a case of patients living with them, working for them (unless a spouse or close relative), I would not even treat my wife/or myself with narcotic medication, unless prescribed by another doctor. Much more persons living with me. I would have been afraid of losing my license, worse lose my objectivity. Very poor judgement/borderline stupidity on Dr. Chua, why did he commit poor judgement (especially somebody as smart as him) - I do not know. Like I said, If the patient lived with me. Definitely no NArcotic meds from me. This case is rare if all accounts are taken in.

Ethical to let inmates do his personal work OUT OF STATE and personal work in the county on his g/f's house and ethical to give polygraph tests to his deputies to see who is cooperating with GBI in the investigation to indict him AGAIN! When will people see Bill Smith for what he is......a CROOK behind a badge!!

Last words on this verdict: Chua may have been a good doctor, but he badly mismanaged this case by prescribing the wrong medications for migraines with narcotics, and in excessive doses at that. That's the wrong way to treat this problem.

On top of that, he committed ethical lapses by allowing young boys to sleep with him, and then exploit them by luring them with drugs. This alone would be enough to get his license suspended.

In essence, he lost both civil (malpractice) and criminal suits (felony murder.) Do people who still support Chua believe this is the type of doctor we should have in our community?

Chua, indeed, was a monster, and we should be glad he is GONE, and for good.

The prosecution didn't need pep rally's, they had and used the media (the media had a strong prosecution bias all along) to their best advantage every chance they could. They put a "gag" order on the case so there could not be any sort of rebuttle from the defense. They locked Dr. Chua up with out a voice and took away his civil rights to defend himself by freezing all his assets through bogus RICO laws.
The DA still has a tremendous amount of questions to answer. This case will define his whole carreer.

Make no mistake he is using this case to advance his political carree as atty. Jim Stein said Sunday.

That is a lot of b.....t. The trial was fair, Chua had one of the best criminal lawyers in Georgia, but the facts, a lot of them unsavory and incriminating, nailed down this sexual predator.

Anybody with any medical background would have known right away this was gross medical negligence. You NEVER, NEVER treat a patient with migraines with strong narcotics, particularly in the reckless way Chua has prescribed them in this case - excessively.

Secondly, his background of luring young men to stay at home with him, with sexual relationships, is an egregious ethical blunder, particularly in the context of prescribing them with drugs. This is the reason he was found guilty as well of violating the Georgia Controlled Substances Act.

This trial had nothing to do with politics, and everything to do with how one doctor misused his profession for his personal gain and greed.

Yes, Chua deserves the guilty verdict the jury handed him. If he thinks of appealing, that, too, would be doomed to failure.

Greetings! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for
this website? I'm getting sick and tired of Wordpress because I've had problems with hackers and I'm looking at alternatives for another platform. I would be awesome if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
