Six hours into their deliberations, a jury still has not returned a verdict against Noel Chua, a St. Marys doctor accused of prescribing drugs that led to the death of 20-year-old Jamie Carter III on Dec. 15, 2005.
Chua was charged with felony murder by prosecutors who said the drugs prescribed to Carter were for no apparent medical reason. He also faces 16 drug charges for violating the Georgia Controlled Substances Act.
Supporter for Carter's family and Chua have been in the courtroom since 9 a.m., when Judge Amanda Williams gave the jury instructions on how the law applies to each of the criminal charges, all felonies.
If convicted, Chua faces 5 years in prison on each of the individual drug charges and up to life in prison on felony murder.
Updates will continue until the jury reaches a verdict.

There is no case;only allegations which lead to "unanswered questions" (DA quote) which lead to many shadows of doubt. Cannot convict on sensational allegations, even with a biased judge.
Testimony has revealed multiple doctors precribed medications to Carter. Though Dr. Chua was aware of some (pill bottles in home) he may not be aware of all. Therefore, he cannot be expected to have known of pending death. If he is guily of felony murder then the other doctors are guilty as well. I do not think wrong doing is applicable in this case. The death was simply accidental.
It's obvious this case is not so "clear cut" as Sheriff Bill Smith proclaimed. The Jury has already deliberated for Six hours. If Chua was falsely accused and "so" innocent the jury would have returned a "not guilty" verdict in 20 minutes or less in order to send a statement to the prosecutors. No matter what happens, we now know Dr. Chua was living a double life, a respected Doctor in the community and a wild sex craved 45 yr old "teenager" behind close doors.
Actually, I think the longer deliberation is helpful for the doctor. It means people are holding out on a conviction on some or all of the charges. My question now is, if the Jury hangs, will he be retried or will the state drop the charges?
Well I know somebody very closely on the jury. While I don't know what is going on in the jury I know this person well enough to know that they will not go with the flow just to get out of there quickly.
The case to me from what has been written isn't clear cut and no jury can review 5 days worth of testimony and evidence in 20 min.
There is no evidence to review if Dr Chua is "so" Innocent and falsely accused!! as Sheriff Bill Smith and others in this community proclaimed. Apparantly, there must be some evidence against him if the jury is still deliberating after six hours. I agree with the other blogger, if the case was so weak, the jury would have returned a quick verdict to send a message to the prosecutors.
Wouldnt you say the same thing about the Prosecutions case? I mean, they did say that they had the CASE OF THE CENTURY...
No I never saw the prosecutors parading to the media, the commissioners, holding "pep" rallies, night vigils, fund raisers, like the "free" Dr. CHua fan club did.
I predict Chua will be found guilty on most if not all of the drug charges. The charge of muder is what is hanging up the jury.
Chua will go to prison. Now it is just a matter of seeing how many years.
I predict 30 years.
To me there are too many unanswered questions. What I never heard was the actual fact that if mixing the prescribed drugs together during the prescribed time would have killed him or others. We heard experts opinions, not facts. And no, the prosecution isn't suppose to parade around, fund raise and hold pep rallies. I believe the case is pretty obvious in his innocence. With the various things said, you have to be certain someone feels different than the rest. Some folks are stubborn too. Again, no side seemed too strong or stronger than the other.
I think this racist judge is having a menupause. Ok, folks, the white supremacists xenophobic moron-lynching mobs are deliberating, pls give them time.
"the white supremacists xenophobic moron-lynching mobs are deliberating" are you referring to the juriors? And if you are, why are you referring to them in that manner ? Were they not selected by both sides ?
The prosecution didn't need pep rally's, they had and used the media (the media had a strong prosecution bias all along) to their best advantage every chance they could. They put a "gag" order on the case so there could not be any sort of rebuttle from the defense. They locked Dr. Chua up with out a voice and took away his civil rights to defend himself by freezing all his assets through bogus RICO laws.
The DA still has a tremendous amount of questions to answer. This case will define his whole carreer.
